Pictured here is "Sampaguita" in Luperòn Bay tied to her one
ton concrete mooring! She is extremely tired of being moored and she wants
to go sailing but her owner, me, does not want to go out sailing anymore.
So she is looking for a new owner. Quite fickle, don't you think? But she
is absolutely right. She is a good sea boat and she should be going to
sea. She also needs a lot of tender love and care that I have not been
giving her lately! No wonder she's been so unhappy!
Well now... to sum things up, if you want a good strong seaworthy boat
and you are not afraid of a little work, then you will not find a better
boat or a better price than right here with this Grampian 34 foot Ketch
Rigged cruising sailboat. You won't find a better location either. Even
if you just want to live aboard at the mooring then you could not find
a better opportunity. This floating home or handyman special is moored
in Luperon Bay, Dominican Republic right at the delightful little town
of Luperon. Great place to retire or great place for a floating vacation home! Well folks... I am getting real serious now! I have moved ashore and what you need to do now is make me an offer that I can not refuse! Need more information? Write to me. Send me an Email and let's talk!
Here is an excellent LINK giving a very good summary of the history of the Grampian company and
the various Grampian boats. Well worth reading! Also, at this site - http://cast-aways.com/RigData/rig_data__g.htm - you can find sail dimensions. I believe that they are not readable on
this line drawing.
And here are some more photos...
Now that I have your attention, I want to thank you for expressing an interest
in my Grampian 34 ketch. She was built in Oakville, Ontario, Canada in
1973 at a time when the engineers were not really quite sure just how strong
fiberglass is and consequently she was over-built with heavy, hand laid
fiberglass matting. Her hull is considerably stronger than the modern,
ultra thin fiberglass boats of today. I have lived on and sailed this boat
for about twelve years now - both in fresh water and in salt water. Five
years were spent in Cuba with multiple crossings made to different parts
of Florida under many different weather conditions. She handles well under
all conditions. Almost all of my sailing was done solo and this boat lends
itself very well to single handed sailing. The four cylinder Westerbeke
diesel engine needs to be taken out and completely overhauled or else a
new engine installed. I believe that a qualified re-builder could put this
engine back into it's original condition but that decision would, of course,
be up to the new owner. The stainless steel rudder has a stainless steel
rudder post which runs up through a rudder tube. Unfortunately, the rudder
tube was designed for fresh water and constructed of aluminum pipe. Over
the years in salt water, the reaction of the two dissimilar metals has
seized the rudder post to the rudder tube. This rudder tube is easily replaceable
but the boat needs to be hauled in order to do this. There is a boat haul-out
yard about eight or ten miles down the coast where one could do this work
or have it done. She would have to be towed to the boat works but there
are many fishing boats here in this bay that would perform that task. I
am selling this boat well under market value and I have no desire to deceive
any prospective buyer as to her condition. She has been neglected but she
is a good, strong, well constructed vessel with plenty of life left in
her. She needs a new and ambitious owner who will give her the attention
necessary. She has a two cabin layout and she is ketch rigged. Her sails
are old and need to be replaced either with new or with second hand sails.
I am at an age now where I can not give this boat the care and attention
that she needs and deserves. This vessel will give her new owner a lot
of pleasure - either as a cruising yacht or simply as a live-aboard here
in Luperon Bay. She has a lot of potential. If you have any further questions
about anything please write and ask them and I will answer them quickly
and honestly.
Here is a little bit more about "Sampaguita"
Follow that dream... Allow your imagination to run wild and realize your
wildest ambitions!
You can do it! Do it now!
And here we have the main reason that my sailing days are over! At a stage
in life when I never expected it, along comes Alberto and he is truly the
"Apple of my Eye"... My single and carefree days are over! Poor
old "Sampaguita" suffers though. She wonders why her old owner,
me, does not seem to have the interest in her that he used to have for
so many years. Sometimes boats just don't understand that times do change!
She knows that she is a good strong boat, as all Grampians are, and she
wants a new owner who will love her the way her old owner used to do. She
wants a new owner to clean her up and rebuild her engine and replace her
sails and go sailing again. I can't hold that against her because she was
always extremely good at sailing!

Looking forward to starboard in the main cabin. What you see is what you
get minus the mess and the tiny little microwave oven that doesn't work.
The TV and Video Player work just fine and so does the clock and barometer!
Even the fan works. Lots of storage space port and starboard.
Sorry for the quality of this line drawing but it is a scan of a photocopy
of another photocopy that has been in my folder for years! Maybe you can
read the Serial Number but if not, it is GRM340170173.
This Ketch Rig suited me well over the years of single handed sailing.
It was always an easy task to add and take in sail because none of the
sails are extremely large. With everything up there is sufficient sail
area to make her perform well. Not real fast but quite comfortable. There
is also a 'Mule' or 'Fisherman' sail that gets rigged between the main
and mizzen masts which is one of the most useful sails of all. It is self
tending and lends stability.
No we have not yet taught 'Supercat' to use the head but he really does
like to sit there and survey his domain. He does not like to have his picture
taken either. I tried to sneak this one but he saw me coming! Crazy but
fast!
Looking forward into the head. A little messy but just try living aboard
with a wife, a two year old child and a crazy cat and see how neat and
tidy you can be! The shower, to port is oversized with seat and hand shower.
Lots of storage. Forward of the storage cupboard is a large chain and rope
locker. There is a holding tank and hand pump to empty it. Needs a little
bit of 'Tender Love and Care'
