The owner of "Shady Lady" has realistically reduced her at $69,900 US which is about market value for a Formosa 41 in her current condition.
Do some research on the Formosa 41 and you will not be finding another
in the condition of "Shady Lady" for less money. Top that off
with her being in a perfect location to begin a Caribbean cruise! The difficult
part of Caribbean cruising is getting to the Caribbean and that has already
been done for you. If you have any questions please feel free to send me

This yacht has been well maintained! She has been here in Luperon for two
years now with the owner living aboard. She is cleaned twice a week and
her bottom is cleaned once a month. The engine is regularly maintained
and is equipped with two Racor filters. Diesel fuel is treated once a month.
A short time ago the owner moved ashore but still day sails. Lots of sails
and in good, useable condition. The owner has kept his ship simple. For
example, hank on sails, manual heavy duty two speed anchor winch, no refrigeration
and only the original icebox. Nothing to let you down at a critical moment!
A Coleman stove and a propane grill are used for cooking. The masts have
been varnished recently and there is no sign of any dry rot or deterioration.
Boom is on a traveller. Stays are useable but getting a little old as is
the running rigging. All halyards are in good condition. The bottom was
last done in New Orleans in 2001 and there was no sign of blisters. In
fact these Formosa yachts do not have blister problems. She should be hauled
out for bottom painting. In the mid 1980’s the cabin top was rebuilt and
is in good condition. The boat was re-wired completely in 2000 - both AC
and DC wiring and panels. At the time a new tri-color light was installed
at the masthead. Three months ago new batteries were installed and last
year a new battery charger. All of the electronics is working with the
exception of the new depth sounder. That might just be needing a good cleaning
of the transducer. Autopilot works well and has new belts. The Perkins
4-108 engine runs very well and has a new shaft, cutlass bearing and propeller
which were all installed in 2001. The transmission has a slight leak and
needs a new seal but has not presented a problem as the owner simply carries
a bit more fluid. Should be taken care of at some point in the future.
Foot pumps and an electric pump supply water for the galley and head. The
shower has been converted into a closet but the hardware is still there
in case a new owner wants to revert back to a shower. Manually pumped head
in good condition. Opening portlights are solid bronze taken from a submarine
and not the original plexiglass ports. Bilge water is taken care of with
two Rule pumps with float switches and a large, new manual backup pump.
Thru-hulls are in good condition, double clamped with good hose. All of
the interior has been recently painted and lighting is provided by flourescent
lamps and oil lamps. Doors all have stainless steel barrel bolts and beautiful
teak joinery with carved dragon heads. The teak and holly floor is being
varnished as you read this! All of the cushions are in good condition and
covered with blue sailcloth. The teak decks have just been replaced with
new fiberglass decks which will serve well for a number of years to come.
The original teak decks, as we all know, are always difficult to maintain.
There is included an old but durable Achilles dinghy with a small 1-½ hp
outboard. Sailaway condition depends on your capabilities. The current
owner himself has no problem leaving and going island hopping in the Caribbean
and is doing that right now. He also tells me that he would deliver this
yacht to Europe or England if the purchaser requires that service.
