1992 Ted Brewer 'Bulldog' design
Steel and sturdy!
BULL DOG Model
A 30' Auxiliary Cutter
Brewer Design #132
The BULL DOG Model is a husky little cutter and was specifically
designed for offshore and long range cruising by a couple with
occasional guests. It is hard to imagine a thirty footer more suited for
blue water sailing and ocean voyages.
A few points to note are the three inch cockpit scuppers
for safety at sea, the mast in tabernacle, the anchor
windlass and chain locker, and much more...
This variation of this excellent plan has a vee berth forward rather then
the folding double shown. It makes a fine harbour berth for a couple. Another
variation from the plan was to not include the forward workbench.
Note the two good sea berths, (pilot berth and quarter berth), the roomy
galley, and the very generous stowage throughout in many
lockers and drawers.
Performance is assured by the generous sail area in a tall, efficient rig.
The single spreader mast is strongly stayed with inner forestay and
features intermediate shrouds that can be set up as runners
in heavy weather to reduce mast panting. The BULLDOG has sufficient
draft and lateral area to keep leeway moderate and a 42% ballast ratio
to keep her standing up in a stiff breeze so she will perform well in
winds from zephyrs to gales.
All in all, the BULL DOG model is a fine little yacht for her intended
purpose. She provides that desirable combination of comfort, performance
and purposeful appearance that is rarely seen in an ocean going cruiser.
Tatia is a BULL DOG model of steel construction. Hardly a better
combination then a fine Ted Brewer design built of
tough steel to last for many years!
You have read her equipment list so you know that she is well found. You
have read about her only flaw which is easily repairable. Spend a little
time with the local welder, a little more time cleaning her up and you
have a yacht that you can be very proud of. She is a sturdy and pretty
design that will take you anywhere. Fully equipped and very nicely built.
Ready to move aboard and enjoy. Great reliable Westerbeke diesel engine
which runs perfectly. The current owner has changed his plans and has priced
"Tatia" to sell quickly at a below market price. Add that to the perfect location
and you have a golden opportunity waiting for you here in the beautiful
Dominican Republic. This perfect location, Luperon Bay, is a first class
home port for those who would like to cruise the Caribbean Sea. Just Reduced. Don't hesitate on this one! Contact me with any questions...
Well now, these three photos below have been deliberately saved until the
last. These three photos depict the only problem with this otherwise delightful
Ted Brewer designed steel sloop. The damage shown here to the toe rail
has been a direct result of a stainless steel panel bolted directly to
the steel toe rail. The two different metals naturally produced this result.
However, the good news here is that the local welders here in Luperon have
looked at this and have told the owner that it is a very simple and inexpensive
job to replace this small section of toe rail. The owner has priced this
yacht accordingly at a bargain price. Don't let this simple little flaw
keep you from picking up this excellent yacht at a below market price!
